In September 2000 Laurence Hasson joined forces with Agrico UK to form Bioselect UK with the support and backing of Agrico Coop in Holland.
As well as expanding production to meet the ever increasing demand for organic seed, Bioselect UK launched a program of variety trialing in the UK (with the support and active encouragement of Agrico's internationally recognized research and breeding facility in Emmeloord).
Out of this program has come Novella, an early maturing salad type with consistent high skin quality and Toluca which has total blight resistance in the foliage.
In addition to our successful early and ware varieties, Agrico grow on contract carefully selected crisp and chip varieties with high dry matter ideal for the processing industry. We have contracts in place to produce in excess of 800 tonnes of ware for key customers, who deliver innovation into the fast moving consumers goods (FMCG) retail environment. This type of contract presents a wonderful opportunity for organic producers to ensure their products compete for premium product status.
The Bioselect UK Potato Variety Demonstration will be held on Thursday August 6th, 2009, at Gaddon Spring Farm, Cullompton, Devon.
The trial plot has been planted within one of the first commercial crops of Toluca, our new blight resistant variety. Read More...
