First early potatoes

Choosing the best varieties for organic production has to be one of the first decisions to make. We can help you make that decision by discussing certain issues such as your intended market place, soil type and facilities.

Junior

The most popular early variety grown in Holland. Junior has good blight resistance and throws high tuber numbers. The flesh is waxy with good cooking qualities. Potential for very high yeilds. View Agronomic Data Sheet (PDF)

Premiere

Best blight resistance according to N.I.A.B. Premiere is a versatile variety preferred by some packers due to it's high dry matter which gives it processing options if the skin quality is not good. View Agronomic Data Sheet (PDF)

Accent

Very useful variety for high yeilding early crops.

Maris Bard

Long oval tubers with cream flesh. This variety has been established for many years. Although has only medium blight resistance, Bard has good resistance to drought and bruising. With medium dry matter Bard will boil and fry well. May be suitable for processing some years.

Pentland Javelin

Versatile variety that has been around for many years. Although not as potentially high yielding as some of the modern varieties, Javelin is quite robust and produces excellent eating quality white fleshed tubers.

Madeleine

New – very high yields of creamy yellow uniform oval/long tubers with excellent cooking qualities. Although not as early Junior or Premiere it matures quickly enough to produce good yields in early July and continue to bulk up well if conditions allow. View Agronomic Data Sheet (PDF)

Novella
